UOB Art Workshops

UOB returns as Lead Partner of Art Central in 2018 with a series of educational art workshops for the public to participate.

United Overseas Bank (UOB) is a leading bank in Asia with a global network of more than 500 offices in 19 countries and territories in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. Since its incorporation in 1935, UOB has grown organically and through a series of strategic acquisitions. UOB opened its first overseas branch in Hong Kong in 1965 with a business focus on wholesale banking.

UOB is steadfast in our support of social development, particularly in the areas of art, children and education. It has, over more than three decades, held the longest-running art competition in Singapore, the UOB Painting of the Year, which has since been extended across Southeast Asia. In recognition of its contributions to the arts, UOB was conferred the Singapore National Arts Council’s Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award for the 13th consecutive year in 2017.

In Hong Kong, UOB established the UOB Art Academy in 2015 with an aim to make art more accessible to the community, nurture local artists and promote cross-cultural dialogues through art outreach programmes, exhibitions and annual art competitions. On a regular basis, the UOB Art Academy collaborates with artists, charitable organisations, schools and other art partners to organise educational art activities for children from less privileged backgrounds or those with special needs, creating opportunities to expose them to art.

UOB returns as the Lead Partner of Art Central for the second year in 2018. The partnership builds upon the success of UOB’s art and cultural engagement programmes and is testament to both organisations’ shared goal of developing the local art scene in Hong Kong and encouraging cultural inclusion of the wider community. UOB will showcase the 18 winning works from the UOB Art in Ink Award 2017 at the UOB Art Space in the Fair, celebrating and recognise the achievements of Hong Kong's artistic talents.

This year, UOB organises a week-long art workshops themed around ink at Art Central an aim to make art more accessible and to promote ink art in the community. The workshops, which will be held at the UOB Art Space within the Fair are free for all Art Central ticket holders.
