SIDE CORE, an art collective formed by Sakie Takasu, Tohru Matsushita, and Taishi Nishihiro—with Kazunori Harimoto participating as video director—develops a practice that situates street culture within contemporary art. Working across installation, video art, and interventions staged in public and street environments, SIDE CORE traces the itineraries of vernacular messages as they circulate through urban and communal spaces.

Following presentations at the Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art and the 8th Yokohama Triennale, SIDE CORE’s practice is now the subject of a major exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, on view through March 2026.

About the Artists

Sakie Takasu, Tohru Matsushita, and Taishi Nishihiro launched SIDE CORE in 2012, with Kazunori Harimoto participating as video director. SIDE CORE creates works based on the question of how an individual can go about sending messages in the city and public space, by referencing the ideas and history behind street culture. Major exhibitions include “SIDE CORE: Living road, Living space” (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2025), “Plastic Utopia: Our New Ecosystem” (Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art, Aomori, 2025), “SIDE CORE|Concrete Planet” (WATARI-UM, Tokyo, 2024), “8th Yokohama Triennale” (Kanagawa, 2024), “Oku-Noto Triennale 2023” (Ishikawa, 2023).
