Indonesia’s National Talent Management for Arts and Culture (MTN Seni Budaya) is proud to present ‘Rising Currents’, a platform dedicated to the multiple registers of practice of Indonesian contemporary art, at Art Central 2026.

A manifold practice in motion, Indonesian contemporary art is where historical reflection and material intelligence intersect with the complexities of today’s urban life. The ecosystem grows from critical discourse and fresh, emerging sensibilities that constantly inform and reshape one another.

Rather than a curated exhibition, ‘Rising Currents’ establishes a shared framework that situates independent presentations within a broader narrative of Indonesia’s contemporary art landscape. Eight galleries will each present their artists in their respective booths, articulating distinct artistic directions and market positions that reflect the field’s current shape.

Whether it is research-driven, institutionally grounded works, or experimentation, the collection offers a glimpse of the Indonesian voices and ideas, especially from the younger generation. Together, these presentations reveal an art scene defined not by uniformity, but by plurality and movement.

Today, Indonesia’s contemporary art ecosystem is evolving along with the changing world—strengthening its infrastructure, expanding international outreach, and asserting its engagement in global contemporary art conversations. As part of Indonesia’s National Talent Management framework, ‘Rising Currents’ seeks to build bridges between dynamic local ecosystems and global platforms.
