Curated by Shirky Chan and in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Art Central presents Studio Central, a creative project spotlighting three pioneering creatives from Hong Kong and Guangzhou: artist-architect Maggie Chu (b. 1975, Hong Kong), kinetic installation artist Tung Wing-Hong (b. 1989, Hong Kong), and transdisciplinary artist collective BOLOHO (est. 2019, Guangzhou). Artists will explore the vibrant neighbourhoods across Hong Kong, drawing inspiration from profound personal connections, as well as from the architectural landmarks and scenes in three local communities—Central and Sheung Wan, Yau Ma Tei, and Sham Shui Po — to explore the allure of city.

Studio Central will transform parts of an immersive art booth into the artists’ personal studios, capturing the familiar sights and spirit of Hong Kong’s effervescent neighbourhoods. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to witness firsthand the artists’ works in progress, immerse in each artist’s distinctive creative environments, experience their artistic visions up-close, and partake in discussions with the artists. Studio Central promises an extraordinary blend of creativity and cultural exploration, inviting visitors to engage with the interconnectedness of art and community.

Discover Art in your Neighbourhood showcases the engagement of all three artists with the dynamic streetscapes and everyday stories of Hong Kong to create new works. These creations will be showcased in the local neighbourhoods, reflecting the authentic contexts that shape their practice. Serving as a pre-Fair introduction leading up to Studio Central, this initiative celebrates the rich diversity of artistic practices within Hong Kong and its broader community, highlighting their intimate, profound connections to the city.
