White Mirror – The Vista of the Inner Worlds (2026)
Ling Pui Sze
At the centre of the UOB Art Space is White Mirror – The Vista of the Inner Worlds (2026), a newly commissioned, large-scale installation by Hong Kong artist Ling Pui Sze. Conceived as the artist’s largest installation to date, the work transforms microscopic cellular imagery into a workable sculptural environment that comprises hand-made paper sculptures and moving images, demonstrating Ling’s accomplished command of ink, paper and site-making practices.
Drawing on her long-term artistic research and recent scientific collaboration with researchers from the University of Cambridge, the installation unfolds as a serene, Zen garden within the dynamic setting of the Fair. Abstract sculptural forms inspired by neurons—the cells responsible for information transmission within the human nervous system—are interwoven with collaged cellular patterns and projected footage of cellular movement. The interplay of stillness and motion creates a rhythmic dialogue between forms, image and space.
By magnifying the microscopic into an immersive environment, White Mirror—The Vista of Inner Worlds invites visitors to reflect on the interconnectedness of body, mind and external reality. Echoing the Daoist notion of “Everything as One”, the installation proposes a sense of kinship between the human interior and the wider universe, offering visitors a moment of stillness, care and introspection amid the bustle of the Fair.
About the Artist
Ling Pui Sze graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts. She has undertaken artist residencies in Taiwan, Iceland, and since 2023 at the University of Cambridge, where she is a Senior Research Associate and Artist-in-Residence at the Intellectual Forum, Jesus College.
Working primarily with experimental ink and collage, Ling draws on microscopic and satellite imagery of nature. Through tearing and reassembling these visuals, she creates abstract creatures and landscapes that evoke organic evolution and imagined worlds. Her practice extends to sculpture, video and installation, examining the relationship between biological traits and human society.
Ling received the Wucius Wong Creative Ink Painting Award and an Honourable Mention for the Liu Kuo-sung Ink Art Award in 2023. Her work has been exhibited at Para Site, the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts, Art Basel Hong Kong, and Art Central, with solo exhibitions at Grotto Fine Art and Gallery EXIT. Her works are held in the collections of M+, the Ashmolean Museum, and Robinson College, University of Cambridge.
2025 UOB Art in Ink Awards Winners' Showcase and UOB Painting of the Year Showcase
Beyond the installation, visitors can explore dedicated exhibition spaces, featuring works from the 2025 UOB Art in Ink Awards Winners’ Showcase and the UOB Painting of the Year Artist Showcase at the UOB Art Space. Together, these presentations highlight UOB’s continued commitment to nurturing artistic talent across Hong Kong, mainland China and Southeast Asia, while encouraging cross-cultural dialogue through contemporary interpretations of ink and mix-media practices.
UOB Art in Ink Workshops
Extending the experience beyond viewing, UOB—together with the UOB Art Academy, a registered charity in Hong Kong—will present UOB Art in Ink Workshops at the Fair. Led by six established Hong Kong artists—Professor Tong Kam Tang, Eric Ho, Ling Pui Sze, Stephanie Yeung Chung Nga, Tong Ng Kwun Lun, and Yau Wing Fung—the workshops bridge traditional ink techniques with contemporary expressions, guiding participants to explore the evolving beauty of ink art.
Each workshop is priced at HK$250 per person, with a half-priced discount for participants aged 17 or below and 60 or above. Workshop proceeds will go to the UOB Art Academy to support art education programmes for underprivileged communities. Pre-registration is required and will open on 12 March at 10:00 a.m. via www.uobartacademy.com.hk/ws2026.
