Organised by Asia Society Hong Kong Center with the support of Art Central, performance art returned to Art Central in 2022 with debut works by Hong Kong independent artist and creative producer Kiwi Chan, and Hong Kong-based choreographer and performer Joseph Lee.

Joseph Lee

Trajectory of Jumps

Inspired by resilience and recovery, Lee’s performance at Art Central 2022 incorporated elements of texts and speech. Trajectory of Jumps navigates the transition from expressive motions to contemplative perspectives, interpreted by morphing his body into ‘moving sculptures’ in constant, intense, and fluid transformations. Lee, the artistic director of Unlocking Dancing Plaza since 2020, has curated a series of contemporary dance programs and platforms to foster artistic discourse in the performing arts field locally and internationally. He is interested in the comprehension, transposition and reenactment of bodily experience to reflect and question the performative nature of daily life.

Kiwi Chan

Love Elasticity of Demand

Investigating the nature of mother-daughter relationships, Chan’s performance employed textual and sound elements in a highly narrative piece that describes intimate memories of her mother’s hurdles while undergoing cancer treatments and how Chan responded by gradually detaching herself from the family.
