Clouds of Continuity (2025)
Tony Ng Kwun Lun

Clouds of Continuity (2025) is an interactive ink art installation by Hong Kong artist Tony Ng Kwun Lun, commissioned by UOB. Ng invites audiences to observe the ever-changing forms of clouds, reflect on personal and collective growth, and recognise the inseparable connection between humanity and nature.

The installation is the fifth work in Ng’s The Diary of Clouds series. In both Eastern and Western cultures, clouds symbolise auspiciousness and hope. Drawing inspiration from the concept of ‘watching the clouds’, Ng encourages visitors to embrace introspection and cultivate sincere, original intentions to overcome challenges and strive for excellence.

Adopting an innovative perspective, this piece seamlessly merges ancient and contemporary imageries with modern ideas. Its unique form captures the beauty of nature’s rhythms and the captivating allure of clouds. It resonates with ancient philosophical principles, referencing Confucius’ idea of cyclical transformation in Zhou Yi: Yi Zhuan (Book of Changes: Ten Wings).

The centrepiece features 60 handcrafted white cloud sculptures made from acrylic sheets, intricately arranged in the shape of the infinity symbol ‘∞’. 60 completes the 60-year calendar cycle in Chinese culture, signifying the continual recurrence and perpetual regeneration of life’s cycles. This arrangement celebrates the 60th anniversary of UOB Hong Kong. As viewers move around the installation, the flat clouds transform into a three-dimensional representation, creating a dynamic visual experience.

A large LED screen behind the sculpture projects digital images of white clouds generated through computer sketches, reinforcing the theme of Clouds of Continuity. This element highlights ideas of perpetual renewal, transformation and development, bridging the past and the future. Additionally, visitors are invited to engage with an augmented reality (AR) feature that allows them to hold and explore their infinite hopes within a virtual cloudscape. This unique blend of technology and art encourages personal reflection and foster a deeper connection with the installation, inspiring both personal and collective sensory experiences and promoting continuous growth.
